ANCHORMAN
This review is a little late, so if I can't remember all the details, sue me! This movie was freakin' hilarious. You never can be too sure with Will Ferrell - I honestly wasn't a big fan of Old School, but I loved Elf and most of his Saturday Night Live stuff. Then I was reading things that said that it was as funny or funnier than Old School, and I got scared. But who cares, because I had also heard a lot of other great things and those were all correct! Will Ferrell is the Anchorman in question, and his name is Ron Burgundy! He's the King of San Diego News, and along with his news team, they make all the other news teams struggle to keep up, whether it be the Latino Newsteam or the PBS news. No one can touch the gold of Ron Burgundy....at least, that's how it was until Veronica Corningstone (or Tits McGill, if you are to believe the News Announcer) showed up to prove that the 70s news anchor scene wasn't just for the guys. This event proceeds to serve as the catalyst of the destruction of Ron's career, as well as the dissolution of the news team. Will Ferrell is of course hilarious. But the movie wasn't just him being funny, as he had an amazing supporting cast. Steve Carell, who is seriously in danger of being typecast (too late), is awesome as the mentally challenged weatherman Brick Tamland and nearly steals the show with his one-liners (I love lamp). Christina Applegate definitely gives Will Ferrell a run for his money as well, because she's had years of comedy training already and was fully ready to play with the boys and make them cry mommy. So if you haven't seen it yet, and it's possible you now have to wait till video since the movie was released nearly a month ago, go out there and check it out. You won't be disappointed.
