BOURNE SUPREMACY

Starring: Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Joan Allen, Julia Stiles, Brian Cox, Karl Urban

This movie kicks ass. I could end the review there, but what the hell would I do with the rest of this blue space surrounding the poster here on my left. So, I'll get into it a little bit more.

Poor Jason Bourne. You know, he survived the events of the Bourne Identity (before you see Supremacy, it is ESSENTIAL to see Identity. Trust me. Go rent it. Or watch it on cable. Or borrow it from me. Another fantastic movie that gives Supremacy much more meaning and depth) and got the CIA to let him go AND he got the girl. They now live life somewhere in India, which is pretty much as far away as you can get from the US. But alas, if he were fated to live in peace, there probably wouldn't be a movie to see or a book that you had read covering the events that unfold in this one. And so, like you probably have guessed, Jason's idyllic existence with Marie gets completely and utterly destroyed. And he gets a little bit pissed, because not only that, he gets framed for an assassination attempt that he didn't even do. Oh yeah, AND an assassin (Eomer from the LotR movies - what a crazy turn of events!) keeps wanting to kill him. So because of all this, the CIA is a little bit ticked and decides that it's time for the Bourne factor to be removed....permanently. Heading up the team is Joan Allen, and you know, this woman is damn good, and damn sexy. I've enjoyed seeing the way she can transform herself, from her role in Nixon to Face/Off to Pleasantville, she rocks. But I digress.

The movie is then a crazy cat and mouse game between any number of different parties, because honestly, it seems like everyone is out for him or herself. There's no one to be trusted, as Jason well knows. And he doesn't trust a single person, and they feel that. There's never a moment where you're bored during this, and as in the first one, Jason is an extremely sympathetic hero, but damn if he can't be brutal when he wants to. One of the great scenes in the movie that can be seen in the trailer, is when he has the CIA team in his sights and he lets them know it. At this point, you know that you're not dealing with a happy nor stupid man.

Much of the movie takes place in Berlin, which also makes me very happy. I was trying to absorb as much as I could because that IS where I plan to be this November.

Go see this movie. You won't regret the money spent on it. But first see Idenity. Then go to the theatre.
