The Coolest House...EVER
September 2001 - November 2002, Baia Da Salga |
I have finally decided to put up all my pictures
in my photo folder called Salga. These are pretty much generic pictures
that I took from my house in Salga or of my house. What a house
this place was. As you can see from the pictures below, the house
itself really isn't much. It's location, location, location. Actually,
the house was pretty cool though. I mean, it's a former church.
So that was kinda creepy and cool at the same time. But seriously,
the view you'd get when you walked outside or just looked out the
window - WOW! I still can remember when Angelo and I were searching
for this place and what a scavenger hunt it was. All we had was
an address and a city - information that is pretty much useless
in the Azores. Using Angelo's limited Portuguese (at the time),
we somehow made it to Sao Sebastiao (pronounced San Sebastian),
which is the main city that Baia da Salga is in. From there, we
found the road through the cow pastures (seriously) that led from
the 'highway'. This road was just outta Star Wars and the Death
Star trench scene. There are rock walls sometimes 6 feet high or
more binding you in to the road (justbarely wide enough for two
vehicles to slowly crawl by each other), and giving you many blind
turns in which you hoped there wasn't a cow, a person, or a truck
coming right for you. Many exciting drives were had on this scary-ass
road. It even had a casualty (Byron's baby Pamela suffered at the
hands of the road), but all was rewarded when you rounded the last
turn. The 2nd picture from the right in the first row of pictures
below was right after that last turn. That first time on that turn,
Angelo and I both looked at each other and couldn't believe this
was the right place. There were three houses total to pick from,
and while one was a monster (the house across the street from mine),
and the other (down by the cafe) was obviously occupied, the little
yellow house on the cliff remained. And we eventually got it. Crazy.
Looking back, it still blows my mind that I lived in this house.
Something like this in the states would cost a buttload.
So anyways, here are pretty much all my pictures of my most amazing
house in the Azores. Obviously there are pictures that are in the
other sections that are of my house. But these are the lot that
are in my Salga folder. Enjoy - I know I love to think about how
amazing the Azores were!
