I'm a REAL Captain now!
Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL: Sep 12 - Oct 15, 2004 |
I honestly couldn't tell you everything that happened
while I was at SOS, writing about it now while it is Dec 20. But
here are some things that stick out:
- Hurricane Ivan rolling through the gulf coast and waking up the
base at 3am with tornado watches
- Being in a room and building separate from my flight
- F-61 gellin' like magellan. We all got along great and our mix
of personalities was definitely a factor in us doing as well as
we did.
- Studying at Barnes & Noble for the two tests. Near the end
of the time there, I just didn't really care all that much, and
that IS reflected in my test score for the second test. Oh well.
- Me stepping up and making sample test questions. How cool am
I?
- Having the coolest intro ever for my job brief - I actually went
first on my brief, so it was perfect, as the intro was that the
slides went all crazy as if they had been hacked. Every one in the
class completely bought that the presentation was jacked because
I totally sold them my fear. It was awesome.
- Trying to get through my China brief, again first, and forgetting
to cite sources verbally at the beginning, and trying to interpret
all the Charades going on in the audience. D'oh!
- Writing that damn ISS paper yet having fun while doing the research
when I got to DJ for it. Good times. Although perhaps not as conducive
to good paper writing as silence or Mozart. Whatever.
- Starting off doing somewhat poorly on the 3-mile warrior run
(I needed a 28:00 time and my first initial attempt was 29:30 -
ouch), but with 3 weeks of constant training and practice, getting
my time down to 25:08. For me, that kicked ass.
- Roof-stomping our flight CC, Ron, and him as well as 5 or so
others, getting thrown in his pool.
- Me balancing like a Cirque du Soleil performer while on a little
pole in the Shaft course during the Project X.
- Flickerball. 1st game a disaster, but the last two: VICTORIES
- The nightmare journey home that turned into surreal life: a stretch
Hummer ride from Montgomery to Atlanta in order to get passengers
to Atlanta in time to make connecting flights because flights just
weren't leaving Montgomery.
- There's lots more, like the dinners at TGIF, getting utterly
trashed at the O'Club when the LtCol-Selects put $15000 on the bar
tab, games at the Fox and the Hound, and just overall having a blast
with great people in an awesome flight. How did we do? 3rd place
out of 30 at the end. We might have had the possibility of getting
1st, but woulda coulda shoulda will kill you everytime. I'll take
3rd place any day though!

Is it fun when violence is involved?

Keesha liked the castle motif - Ron made this himself!
|
Castle motif is pretty darned cool
|
Oh, it looks like Ron wanted to go to the pool

All that running sure does look tiring!
|
Don't think I'd want to wear that costume
|
|
A victorious F-61? Yes! Our first flickerball win
|
Somehow, Leroy got caged up. Don't ask me how.

Pat was bet he couldn't eat a sausage mcmuffin all at once
|

But Pat indeed won that bet
