I finally saw some of the Nevada landscape
October 5, 2003 - Northeast of Las Vegas, NV |
An outing had been set up to go to see the Valley
of Fire, and I decided to go along and actually see some of the
state besides the casinos. There's lots of desert out here, and
some of it is quite beautiful. Both Valley of Fire and Red Rock
are well-known areas where the red sandstone has pushed up and is
visible. Valley of Fire is incredible as it is a huge area of very
red rocks and mountains surrounded by normal 'desert'-looking scenery.
You curve a bend in the road as you approach and BAM! there's nothing
but red rocks and mountains. Very cool - as you can see in the pictures
below, the rocks are literally red and contrast greatly with the
area. We got lucky with this trip, or should I say, we just waited
till the right time of year to take this trip, as it wasn't ungodly
hot outside. It has been nice that Vegas is finally starting to
cool off!!! |
