WTF is it with this headline? It immediately wins the award for Most Surreal Headline of 2009 in my book. And the fact the kid was hiding in the attic over his garage…duh. Didn’t 12 Monkeys teach us anything? It was fascinating that every single news channel was tuned to watching the potential of that flying saucerish balloon crash in to the Colorado ground. I admit I was definitely watching.
Today at work was one that really tried my sanity. Was it necessarily stressful? Not overly so. Did the world end? Nope. Did I want to smash someone, who was on the other end of the phone, and their face the fuck in? Ah, yes. And that fact alone contributed to my wretched mood today. The day did manage to end well as I got in a run up in the NBC gym as it’s raining like a mo’fo outside. The radio was calling it an ol’ Nor’Easter. Sounds fun! I’ll have two, salt, on the rocks.
I forgot to mention I picked up and actually started using the Nike+ run tracking system, which integrates, naturally, with my iPhone 3GS. Can I just say how incredible this simple little $20 device is? You sync it to your iPhone 3GS (or iPod Nano or iPod Touch) and then when you start a run, you basically press Play. It can tell how fast you’re running and how far you’re going. It saves all this information, and then when you plug in your device into your computer, it uploads it to the Nike+ website, where you can use this awesome free site that organizes and displays your data. There’s training programs, cool interactive maps you can plan runs on, etc. It’s very sweet. Highly recommended as seeing your actual progress on a site that does a lot of work and makes your results concrete is pretty motivating.
Ah, yes, why the hell did I put a shot of the Beatles’ Abbey Road album up at the top? Because I bought the Remastered Stereo editions of all the Beatles’ albums and I’ve fallen firmly in love with the Abbey Road album, as well as Revolver. Last week though, I was listening to Abbey Road and while I wasn’t high, I must have hit some sort of emotional chord or something, because the whole part of the album which begins around Because and all the way to the end has a constant refrain and theme to it. And the real climax is at Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End. Well, it gets to Golden Slumbers, and I just start fucking losing it. As in, this song is just speaking to me and it is making me sad. Then it transitions to Carry That Weight, which I’ve always loved, but never really picked up on the fact it’s just a very small part of a huge piece of music. And that part where Paul (I think) says, “Boy, you’re gonna carry that weight, carry that weight a LONG time…†really got to me. Seriously, I know, you’re thinking I’m on drugs. Then the happiness of The End came on and it was just all very emotional. It’s a very cool three-song medley if you have time just for a little listen, but I recommend the whole Because and onwards listen too. Anyway, it’s funny as now I listened to that three-song stretch while walking home and while I absolutely love it still, did I feel all verklempt? Uh, no. So I must have been having Ladies Days or something last week.
Well, it’s near the Thursday night TV marathon in which almost every single show I watch is on. Survivor, Community, 30 Rock, Parks & Recreation, CSI, Project Runway….I’m actually a little bit glad that Ugly Betty got moved to Fridays, although that is definitely a sign that ABC is ready to kill it off. :-( My first article of the Amazing Race season also got posted on the site today. Yay!
