Apocalyptic Weekend (MM)

Independence Day?  Check.  Day After Tomorrow?  Check.  Deep Impact or Armageddon?  Sign me up.  Godzilla or 10,000 BC?  Uh, no.  But 2012?  Oh, hells yes.  I love when there is disaster on screen and when it is this epic and fantastic to behold, I am powerless to resist.  Roland Emmerich, who is responsible for ID4 and Day After Tomorrow, is pretty much a master of the disaster movie (taking over for the 1970s Irwin Allen who helmed The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno) and I gladly partake in it.  And hoooo-boy, this is pretty much the final disaster movie that can be done – needless to say, this movie goes all the way.  There’s no longer just a ship overturning here and a cold NY winter there; no, this is literally LA falling into the ocean and the Yellowstone SuperVolcano exploding. Yeah, it’s nuts.  So I loved it.  But I must admit that after seeing pretty much the annihilation of billions of people, you get left a little shell-shocked and a tad scared that shit, I really hope this doesn’t happen in December 2012!  And where’s my $1B so I can get a ticket on one of dem Arks?

But my apocalyptia didn’t end there – oh NO!  Larry & I also watched the recent Nicolas Cage movie called Knowing.  I didn’t know too much about this one except the trailer showed some cool disaster footage but it looked very cliche.  Well, it wasn’t that cliche and it was actually very creepy and intriguing.  And the disaster scenes were indeed amazing and the story good… up till the last 10 minutes or so.  WTF was that all about?

Other than ensuring I’ll have fucked-up dreams for the next few days, the weekend was pretty good.  Saturday was rainy, so that’s when we saw 2012.  Then on Sunday, Larry & I ran 6 miles up the West side of Manhattan.  We took the subway down to Battery Park (the southern tip of Manhattan) and then ran up the river park that runs along the Hudson River all the way up to 72nd Street.  It works out to about 6 or so miles, and was a beautiful run.  It’s probably one of the last nice days for us to do this before we hit our winter.  I don’t mind the winter that’s for sure – bring on the snow!  But it’s still nice to have a nice mild day!

Oh yeah, looks like work may be awkward with respect to a certain incident from last week.  I regret that I didn’t handle resolving this better, but there’s no way I’ll be saddled with someone saying I am crazy or making it up.  Whatevs.  Today was a good day and I’m hoping that this week is good.
