Sad news in the world of entertainment as it was reported today that Margot Kidder, the best Lois Lane there was, died yesterday. She and Christopher Reeve (along with Gene Hackman), made the first Superman movie everything it was, and it was imprinted on my mind from the first viewing. Her moment getting saved by Superman after she plummets from the crashed helicopter towards the ground and then Superman catches her?
Everything about this scene is magical, and I still get such euphoria when the main Superman theme kicks in as he then catches the helicopter. I mean, just…amazing.
Margot Kidder played that role so well though and in both this and Superman 2, she knocks it out of the park.
I talked about my own experience “meeting” her while working at Bookstar back in the 90s a few years back:
It’s very sad how much she suffered, but she did fight back, dammit. I’ll miss her but she is eternal now having been immortalized in one of the greatest movies of all time. Thank you for everything, Margot Kidder.
