So just about a year ago, the Veronica Mars Movie Kickstarter was launched and after I learned it was actually a real thing, I immediately contributed $200 to it, which entitled me to quite a bit of cool swag, including a digital version of the movie (sent to me today), a T-shirt, stickers, a signed version of the official poster (still to come), and best of all…the knowledge that my small contribution helped make the movie a reality. Â And believe you me, the money was worth it as the movie was fantastic.
And it was everything a fan would want to see in the continuation of the series that was tragically but understandably cancelled after three wonderful seasons in the mid-2000s. Â “Understandably” because the ratings were pretty terrible….but that wasn’t a sign of quality by any means, as you’d be hard pressed to find a better cast of characters and actors, wickedly funny dialogue and gripping mysteries. Â The first season is particularly wonderful though in the path the story takes and getting to know Veronica, her friends and her family. Â You’re missing out if you haven’t given the TV show a chance. Â But like a phoenix from the ashes, Kickstarter, Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell got the gang back together and picked up almost where we left off, just about 10 years later.
I’m not really interested in reviewing this movie – just go see the thing. Â Even though the movie is definitely a wonderful gift to the fans of the original series, two of our group tonight who went to see it hadn’t seen the show and were also quite entertained. Â It’s hilarious, there’s a great mystery, and a LOT of past characters return to Neptune, California….. Â Ugh, I hate rambling. Â I’m a bit tired and I wanted to get my post in before the day was up. Â I’m just over the moon about how good the movie ended up being, and also relieved that it was as good as it was. Â Congratulations to Rob Thomas and the supremely talented cast and crew for making a wonderful movie – I appreciate it and I know many many fans will too. Â It was also a LOT of fun to watch the movie in a theater completely packed with nothing but VM fans. Â What an experience! Â With that, peace out and it’s sleepy time!
