A Brief Yet Fun Weekend with Michancy

Wonderful friend Michancy graced us with her presence this weekend – it was a quick trip but awesome nonetheless.  On Friday night, she arrived just in time for us to walk down to Casita del Campo for some Mexican food and THEN experience a 5.1 earthquake!  It was funny how we could totally feel our booth shaking, but nobody else in the restaurant was seemingly reacting.  It was highly likely that we were just getting jostled by the adjoining booth at the restaurant or the stage below us was having one HELL of a show.  But all of us were feeling the motion, and when I asked, a tad drunkenly, our waiter, I happened to look up and notice that the hanging lamp over table was swaying.  He wasn’t convinced but he did come back a little bit later to confirm we were right; we had already done those confirmations on phone and I also got a phone call from Mom who’d been woken up.  A 5.1 is a pretty good size!  SoCal is certainly getting a lot more active, earthquake-wise.

On Saturday, we ended up trekking out to the Malibu Wines grounds, a wonderful and beautiful place.  It’s a picnic-style area surrounded by local vineyards in the Santa Monica mountains north of Malibu.  It was an especially lovely day to visit as the temperature was just right (mid 70s), the sun was shining, and while it was crowded, we still found a place to set up a picnic blanket and enjoy the day.  It works that you bring your own food, but you buy the wine there.  It’s a good deal.  While enjoying our wine and assorted meats and cheeses, it was also prime people-watching, as the assembled crowd seemed like a combo of Town & Country, J Crew, and Bloomingdales advertisements.  I was NOT complaining.  There were tons of hot guys to gawk at as all three of us can attest to.  It’s a great spot though and one I’d happily return to with out-of-town guests or even just to go to by ourselves.  Great ambience.  Here are some pictures from that day, including our drive home along the coast and through Malibu.

Michancy left around noon today and that left us with just relaxing and not doing much of anything.  I’ve been (re)playing the HD reissue of Final Fantasy X/X-2 on the PS3 while also playing FFVIII on Steam (PC).  I enjoy the hell out of these 2 installments, but gotta say playing FFX in HD on PS3 is pretty amazing.  Also re-watched the first Captain America movie – I drool every time that Steve Rogers’ new body is revealed.  GOOD LORD that man is hot.

Definitely looking forward to the new Captain America movie coming out this Friday, subtitled The Winter Soldier.  I get sad when the focus was on Agent Carter, as they had a nice love story.  Maybe it gets some resolution in this new movie?
