Went into the Pacific Ocean today

Larry and I went into the Pacific Ocean today, for the first time since we’ve lived here.  Not just the getting feet wet stuff either, as we HAVE done that previously especially when living in Santa Monica, but getting ALL in the water.  It was awesome!

Rewinding a little bit to explain why we were in the beach:  One of our NBC coworkers and friends is leaving the west coast and taking a job with NBC back east.  Traitor!   I kid, I kid.  But for his going-away, Nicki planned a day at the beach.  She and Jenn actually got to Dockweiler Beach at 10am hoping to get there early and claim a fire pit; no such luck though, as even at that time, every single fire pit had been claimed with some of the people saying they’d been there since 7am.  YIKES.  This is a serious business.

DockweilerBeach_RobGoingAwayLocationAs you can see in this map and where the marker is, our spot on the beach was directly in the line of some LAX departures.  It’s kind of an awesome thing to behold.  We saw mostly “regular” size aircraft departing, but there were a few that were just enormous.  One China Air jet was fairly low but it was also incredibly huge – I looked it up tonight and it was a 747-400.  Enormous aircraft!

Anyway, actually spending time at the beach ended up being a lot of fun.  We brought our yellow zero-gravity chairs which everyone was envious of (obviously), and they were very comfortable for relaxing in.  Also, we went into the water a few times and surprisingly, the water wasn’t freezing as it typically is in the Pacific.  The waves were out of control too and it was an adventure just withstanding the waves’ onslaught.  I think the lifeguards were on high alert today as it was pretty rough.  We all got knocked around a bit and both Larry & I managed to lose our sunglasses in the exact same wave crash, as it was a GIANT fucking wave crash that knocked us all down.  Had no idea where my sunglasses went, but I’m sure they were quickly on their way north along the coast as that was certainly the way you were getting dragged.

Larry & I didn’t stay for the entire outing as they were going to be there till 10pm.  No gracias.  We left around 6:30pm and made it home, where we’re now continuing to watch the Simpsons marathon on FXX.  It’s ridiculous.
