First things first, AAA is the best. Â Yesterday, we were heading out to get my mom and then to Upland for a going-away dinner for Trent. Â We get to the parking garage though and when I press the button on my key to unlock the car, absolutely nothing happens. Â Repeated presses continue to do nothing. Â Go figure! Â I quickly flip through the events in my memory associated with my car as I hadn’t driven it the past 4 days and I suddenly remember it: Â When I got home from having my car serviced at the dealer, I had parked and entered all the relevant maintenance records in an app on my phone. Â It is dark down there so I turned on the console light to see…and never turned it off. Â I can explicitly remember not turning it off. D’oh!
So this morning, I give AAA a call, get connected to their Battery Service, and about 20 minutes later, a very nice guy was there in a small truck. Â He was able to diagnose my battery’s health (still fine, just no charge) and quickly jump start it with a portable device. Â Awesome. Â He did recommend that we let my car idle there for 5-10 minutes to let the car get the juices flowing to the battery, then drive it for a solid 45-60 minutes. Â Luckily on a Sunday at noon, traffic isn’t too terrible on the freeways. Â So off we went, just for a Sunday drive. Â Who does that?
A Goodbye and Good Luck Dinner for Trent
Trent is graduated from high school and is heading to Sonoma State for college next week! Â Wow, nothing like something like that to happen to make you feel old. Â OOF. Â Larry ended up driving us out to Duarte to get my mom and then we headed to Vince’s Spaghetti out in Rancho Cucamonga. Â It was great to see everyone and I did my best to convey, in the short time we had, that Trent should have a ton of fun at college, but first and foremost, YOU HAVE TO PASS YOUR CLASSES! Â He’s a smart guy, so I have faith. Â But it’s a tough thing to remember when you’re suddenly on your own and around a bunch of other young and excited kids. Â Wow, 1994 feels like a LONG time ago. Â I know Stacie will be excited and sad as any mom would at this huge life moment. Â She’s driving Trent up to the campus next weekend – it sounds like a great area to be in, honestly. Â Your school is right outside Santa Rosa and due north of San Francisco. Â Not too shabby.
Exploding Kittens with Nicki & Rekha
The dinner with Trent was fairly early in the evening (4pm) so it ended up working out pretty well that Nicki’s get-together was at 8. Â We had plenty of time to eat, get home, and then regroup to head out again. Â This time, we Uber’d it, as we both wanted to drink and we’re responsible adults! Â The main impetus for this party, besides having fun, was that Rekha was in town for work! Â So of course we got to catch up on the happenings back at NBCU. Â And then we drank. Â Well, I drank like my life depended on it. Â My only solace is that I kept drinking wine all night, and never mixed in beer or hard liquor. Â I’m quite hungover today. Â I was dreading the dead battery issue today but fortunately that went about perfect and was nearly effortless. Â ANYWAY, I digress.
One of the main games we played last night was “Exploding Kittens,” one of the hottest Kickstarter games recently. Â You can’t even get the game unless you were a supporter (which Brian & Nicki were), so we were playing something fairly exclusive! Â 🙂 Â Anyway, I found Exploding Kittens to be a hell of a lot of fun and pretty easy and straight-forward to play. Â That’s not always the case with the games we do play – not that involved games aren’t fun too, but sometimes it is nice when it’s more direct. Â I’m definitely interested in playing it again, possibly even when I’m sober!
