This night at the Hollywood Bowl was all about rocking and rocking it hard. It did not disappoint. The opening act was Liv Warfield, and as the conductor of the Hollywood Bowl orchestra promised, “it is a good thing the Hollywood Bowl does not have a roof as Liv would have torn that mother down.” Not a lie, as Liv brought it. I don’t think most of the audience had a clue who she was, myself included, and man, talk about leaving an impression. The voice on Liv was insane, and her showmanship and performance that night only wanted you to know more about her. She is an alumni of Prince’s New Power Revolution and it’s not surprising to learn that, especially with the type of music and style she performed.
Pre-Gaming at the Bowl
Oh yeah! So it was the first time in a while that I got to hang out with Mila & Sveta, as well as Sarah! Since I missed out on the Sound of Music Sing-a-long this year, my summer time with the group was definitely reduced due to not all of us choosing the same concerts to attend. It was fantastic seeing everyone.
Liv Warfield Rocks
We got a break after Liv to get ourselves ready for the epicness of Heart. For a band that has been around since the 70s, you’d be forgiven for thinking maybe Heart doesn’t have the capacity to rock as hard as they used to. You’d be wrong. Ann & Nancy Wilson still have it. Ann’s voice is still second-to-none and it’s honestly surprising as it has that raw edge you’d think would tear it apart over time – but when she sang “Alone” it was all there. Nancy on the guitar and other various instruments, as well as singing, is also just as awesome. What a spectacular show. Seriously. They mixed in some Led Zeppelin songs throughout the show, as well as a surprising Elton John song, but of course did the super popular Heart songs: “Alone” brought the Bowl to its feet mid-way through while “Crazy On You” and “Barracuda” were the fantastic encores to close out the show. SO GOOD.
