Road Trip! Off to Potsdam

Berlin Excursion -
Sunday, November 7, 2004

Excerpts from my travel journal:

So now it's 7 November, which is today. I gotta say, I realized that there wasn't much left for me to do. Experiencing Berlin's nightlife by myself just wasn't going to happen. I know me, and I didn't feel comfortable at all going to clubs by myself; hell, I get all scared with others too. Let's not get too into that, let's just say that with the right group of people, Berlin would be one hell of a town to party in.

I decided after breakfast to go see what was in Potsdam, as apparently you haven't visited Berlin if you haven't been to Potsdam. (Huh?) Okay, enough said. So I took the S-Bahn out there, knocked out some postcards to my peeps, and got kicked off of one S-Bahn for selling drugs....NOT!, but really because the S-Bahn ended and I needed to get on another S-Bahn, and ended up finally in Potsdam. Well, the Potsdam Bahnhof is a good walk away from the main sight in town, the Schloss Sanssouci (I LOVE THAT WORD). So I proceeded to tambien the hell out of Potsdam, walking my skinny ass through the rain and all. Today I brought my backpack, so I had room for and brought my umbrella, lucky for me. I got to Sanssouci finally (I love saying Sanssouci - it's my other favorite Berlin word besides Kurfurstendamm) and walked the miniature version of Versailles. What's with these palaces and their terraced gardens and fountains? Enough already. Apparently they were concerned about their courtiers' weight. I thought about paying for the guided tour of the palace interior for all of about 3 seconds, but after being told I'd have to wait 50 minutes, I said nah, and walked the long, rainy walk back to the train station. I rode to the stop back in Berlin near where the KuDamm starts, right by KaDeWe. Everything on the drive is closed since it's Sunday, so the pedestrian traffic is rather sparse. Oh well, it makes for easy walking. I walked the nice part of KuDamm to an U-Bahn station, at which I got back on the public transport and got my happy but unfulfilled self back to the hotel, where I am now, writing about the last two days' fun. I was hoping to watch more people in the aquarium, but alas, it seems the elevator is broke. Damn. And that folks, is a wrap of Berlin. I saw most of what I wanted to see, but I'm ready to go home. Speak some English. You know, the usual pathetic, but comforting, life I have back in Vegas!

Gloomy KuDamm - of course, it was closed on Sunday. Figures.

Hotel Kempinski - it's famous I've heard.

A Linus store? Huh?

Back at the SAS Radisson, another Aquadom picture. This thing belongs in an evil lair, doesn't it?

My room is that one 4 up from the bottom with the shades pulled.
